Attention all families:

Homecoming is September 30th (Mr. Harriman's Birthday) and we would like each student to bring in a plastic, small bottle (Sunny Delight) and decorate at home showing your Cardinal spirit.  These bottles will be used as noise makers at our pep rally and the parade.

PHILOSOPHY OF LEARNING-

We believe that students learn best through the use of developmentally appropriate practices which are student-centered and involve many hands-on experiences. We believe that all children can learn if they are provided with a safe learning environment and when proper instructional methods are used to meet the various learning styles of students. We believe that schools need to meet not only students' academic needs but also their social and psychological needs.

TECHNOLOGY-

Students are taught appropriate technological vocabulary as well as the proper care and use of CDs and DVDs as they learn to use software for drill and practice and to gain new concepts. The calculator is also used to support mathematical principles. Computer Programs that are used at our grade level include: Success Maker --an individualized instructional computer program which challenges students yet allows each student to experience success as they proceed at their own pace. Each student's progress can be monitored to ensure continual growth in the areas of reading and math.
We have added Mimio Boards to our classrooms. They are interactive whiteboard systems, used with our computers and LCD projectors. We are excited to use them as a motivating digital presentation and teaching tool.

ACCELERATED READER-

The Accelerated Reader program is web-based computer software used to motivate kids to read by rewarding them with points based on their comprehension level of each book they read. A.R. encourages students to read and comprehend books of their own choosing, then demonstrate their understanding by taking a computer-based test on the content of the book. Students' scores are recorded, and they are given points based on the difficulty of the book. Then students receive rewards according to points accumulated. Our goal is to foster a love of reading and a lifelong desire to read.
